Attendance Policy

MAP students are expected to attend ALL of their scheduled classes on time each Saturday. Students will be allowed two (2) absences during the fall semester and two (2) absences during the spring semester without penalty to their grade. Additional absences may result in a lowering of the student’s grade, and/or the student being placed on a status of concern, warning, or probation. Excessive absences may result in dismissal from the program. Lateness may also result in the lowering of a student’s grade at the instructor’s discretion. If a student is late three times to an individual private lesson or class within one semester, it is equivalent to one absence.

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify the MAP office and the student's teachers of any absences by completing the online Student Absence Form.

  • For expected absences, submit the form at least two weeks in advance. Written documentation supporting the reason for the student's absence can be uploaded via the online form.
  • For unexpected absences, such as illness, submit the form as soon as possible. Written documentation supporting the reason for the student's absence can be uploaded via the online form or submitted in hard copy to the MAP office when the student returns.
  • If you are submitting the form less than 48 hours before your absence, please email the MAP office at map@juilliard.edu AND contact your private teacher directly.
  • Your teachers and the MAP office will be automatically notified of your absence via email.
  • It is recommended that students also notify their teachers verbally of any expected absences.
  • Students are responsible for requesting missed assignments from their teachers.

Substitutes and Make-up Lessons

Faculty members are expected to be present and on time for every scheduled class or lesson, but are permitted to substitute a small number of their scheduled lessons and classes each academic year. Faculty must communicate any anticipated absence to their students. Faculty will try to utilize the same substitutes for the benefit of the students.

THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP LESSONS due to faculty or student absences. In certain circumstances a specially scheduled lesson must be approved first by the Administrative Director. Under NO circumstance should a lesson be conducted at the home of a faculty member or student, or any location other than The Juilliard School.

Tuition & Financial Assistance

As of fall 2022, MAP is a tuition-free program. Additional financial assistance—including transportation stipends and free lunch on Saturdays—is available to families who qualify. Families will receive further communication about eligibility for this assistance during the summer.

Upon admission to the program, new students must submit a $100 non-refundable matriculation fee by the posted deadline via the student's application status page in order to secure the student's spot.

High School Senior Student Support

A $500 stipend to high school seniors to help support student needs related to the college admission process. Please complete this form to request up to $500 of support.
